About the Artists & Speakers
Mariesa Dulak writes picture books and young fiction about identity and family life. She was born in Yorkshire of dual heritage (English/Barbadian). A self-confessed book nerd, after a degree in English literature, an MA in Children's Literature and a career in publishing, Mariesa started writing. In 2020 she won the FAB Prize for her debut picture book text There’s a Tiger on the Train (illustrated by Rebecca Cobb). There’s a Tiger on the Train was nominated for the Carnegie Award, won The Week Junior Picture Book of the Year and was described as a book to 'watch out for' by The Sunday Times. Mariesa’s second picture book The Silver Shadow (illustrated by Alea Marley) has just published with Walker Books and has also been nominated for the Carnegie Award.
