About the Artists & Speakers
Alex Wheatle is the best-selling author of several books including the modern classic, Brixton Rock, and the multi-award winning Crongton series.
He was awarded an MBE for his services to literature in 2008, has been twice nominated for the Carnegie Medal, and has won numerous awards including Guardian Children's Fiction Prize. He lives in London.
Cane Warriors has been shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal and the UKLA Book Award; is winner of the Young Quills Historical Fiction Award; has been shortlisted for the YA Book Prize, Diverse Book Award and Iris Award; and was longlisted for the YA Jhalak Prize
Alex Wheatle is also local! His mum used to live on Herne Hill Road, and he used to read books at Carnegie Library. He’s excited to be back in Herne Hill at Station Hall talking about his new work and reading from Cane Warriors
